Four Main Aspects of Green Building

The concept of green building began to grow since 1970. Discourse began to warm discussed as a response to the energy crisis and concerns of the community environmental conditions. Since then, the need to conserve energy and reduce environmental problems were constantly encouraged to this day.

Green building is a concept which is also known as, sustainable buildings. Then what kind of building that can be classified as a green building? Many parties agree that green building must qualify the location, system design, renovation, and operation of the principle of saving energy and positive impact on the environment, economic, and social. This specification requires a fixed guide or guides, because the current standard definition is still a multi-interpretation.

Four main aspects to consider in building a green building that is material, energy, water, and health.

Material

The material used to construct must be obtained from natural, renewable energy sources that are sustainably managed, or building materials acquired locally to reduce transportation costs. Durability of building materials that are proper should remain untested, but still contains elements of recycled materials, reduce waste production, and can be reused or recycled.

Energy

The application of solar panels is believed to reduce the cost of building power. In addition, buildings should also fitted windows to save energy use (especially for lights and air conditioning). For daytime, the window should be opened to reduce electricity consumption. The window must also be able to improve the health and productivity of occupants. Green building must also use energy saving lamps, other energy-saving electrical appliances, and renewable energy technologies like wind turbines and solar panels.

Water

The use of water can be saved by installing rainwater catchment systems. This will recycle the water for example can be used for watering plants or flushing toilets. Use also water-saving equipment, such as a low wing water fountain, do not use the bathtub in the bathroom, use water-saving flush toilets or waterless compost toilets, and installing water heating system without electricity.

Health

Use buildings materials and furniture that are not toxic and the products can improve indoor air quality, to reduce the risk of asthma, allergies, and other diseases. The material in question is emission-free materials, low or non-VOC, and waterproof to prevent the arrival of germs and other microbes. Indoor air quality can also be enhanced through ventilation systems and tools humidity regulator.
